AC töltők: Type1 és Type2

A töltőkábelek speciális csatlakozókkal kapcsolódnak a járművek töltőbemeneteire. A Mode 2 és Mode 3 (váltakozó áramú – AC) töltőkhöz az elektromos autókba jelenleg kétféle csatlakozót építenek be, az ú.n. Type 1, vagy Type 2 csatlakozót. Mindig az elektromos jármű gyártójának döntése, hogy melyik szabvány szerinti AC töltőcsatlakozót használja.

Vásárlás előtt mindig ellenőrizze, hogy milyen csatlakozóval rendelkezik a gépkocsi.

A Type 1 csatlakozót – mivel összesen 3 nagyáramú kontaktussal rendelkezik – csak 1 fázisú AC töltésre használják.
A Type 2 (vagy IEC 62196 szabvány szerinti) csatlakozó öt nagyáramú kontaktussal rendelkezik a két (CP és PP) segédkontaktus mellett. Ezért ez a csatlakozó nagyobb teljesítményű, 3 fázisú AC töltésre is használható – de csak abban az esetben, ha töltőkábel és a jármű fedélzeti töltője is 3 fázisú.

Ennél a csatlakozó-típusnál a rögzítést egy, az aljzatba épített, mágneses, vagy motoros működtetésű zár-stift biztosítja, ami lehetetlenné teszi a csatlakozó kihúzását az aljzatból töltés közben.

DC (egyenáramű) villámtöltők

Az egyenáramú töltőknek három fajtája terjedt el Európában.
A japán autógyártók által kifejlesztett CHAdeMO rendszerűt használja a Nissan, a Kia, a Mitsubishi, a Citroen és a Peugeot, míg a Type2-es csatlakozó továbbfejlesztéséből született CCS csatlakozót főleg az európai autógyártók, mint például a BMW és a Volkswagen támogatják.
A Tesla Model S a hagyományos Type2-es csatlakozón keresztül egyenárammal is tölthető, így a Tesla Motors által világszerte kiépített Tesla Supercharger hálózat töltői is ilyen csatlakozóval rendelkeznek.
